Debbie Barnett first served Kentucky FBLA as long-time adviser at Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, KY and later as our Adviser to the State Officers. Mrs. Barnett left a legacy in Kentucky FBLA with her impact on countless students, state officers, and advisers. She was mother to former State President, Kari Miller, and a mentor and friend to so many on this contact list.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggested contributions to Kentucky FBLA. Your Board of Directors, working with Mrs. Barnett’s family, voted to offer a new scholarship with these funds. Mrs. Barnett supported students chasing their dreams, no matter their chosen field or pathway in training to reach their goals. Because of this, unlike our other scholarships, the Debra Barnett Memorial Scholarship will be open to more of our members. Please review the scholarship application and encourage one senior from your chapter to apply.
Kentucky FBLA plans to help grow and sustain this fund through $1 donations to dress more casually in an FBLA shirt, nice jeans or khakis on the last day of our State Leadership Conference (much like our March of Dimes initiative in past years). If you or your chapter feel lead to give, additional donations may be made during our $1 donation window at the State Leadership Conference this April. Those donating at least $1 at the State Leadership Conference will receive a ribbon in Mrs. Barnett’s favorite colors to attach to their nametag at the conference.
The scholarship application and supporting materials will be due March 15, uploaded to the following link:
